| This blog will focus on classic RPG gaming. I will be covering both pen and paper and computer/console RPGs. | |||||
Entry for July 24, 2007
Alright lets start off with what I am keeping tabs on around the net: The Retronauts blog/podcast is one of my favorites over at 1up.com. Check here for a bit Jeremy did on Chrono Trigger back in June. I'll probably be hitting on Chrono Trigger again in a few weaks for a review. I have been working my way through Pulp Gamer's Inside Track interview series. These guys pull in some good interviews including one with Tracy Hickman, co-author of Dragonlance. I never miss the Fear the Boot podcast. This is a great pen and paper centered show. Since the main host, Dan, is around my age, it has a lot of good classic gaming related discussion. They talk about classic Battletech and AD+D 2nd edition fairly often on the show. Perhaps the only thing I enjoy more than the show is the forums. They have a great community that includes at least one former Battletech writer and the operator of Highmoon Media, a small .pdf publishing company (that supports the excellent Testament game). Lots of great insight and discussion on their boards. I am still working on my Dragon Warrior review and write-up and will have it up in the next few days in the reviews section. I have kicked off my D+D Basic Set campaign with my home group. I will be running the campaign in the Known World/Mystara setting using the Gazzetteer series. I never used modules when I ran my old D+D games so this will be an interesting change of pace for me. For now it looks like the adventure flow will go like this:
I will be a little stingy on XP and they should be hitting the low regions of Expert Level (4th-14th) play by the end this arc is finished. I will probably use the second half of B12 as the climax to the arc. It is a great guerrila war on a keep of humanoids. By the end of this arc they should be in good with the Duke which will set them up for a trip to the classic Isle of Dread. I'll do write ups of each module as we finish them. Some, like King's Festival, will be heavily modified. 2007-07-24 13:05:56 GMT
